Education is the key to health and fitness.
You cannot expect to become healthy and fit without educating
yourself on how to achieve health and fitness. Education is
an on going process throughout your life to learn how to become
fit, lose and maintain weight, eat right, etc. To achieve
the greatest possible benefits to your health and fitness,
there is no substitute for your own education.
To avoid incorrect or false information on health and fitness
issues, you need to be careful where you get your information
from. Here are a few guidelines to help you avoid false or
incorrect claims:
-they make claims that people want to hear, but are too good
to be true.
-they offer alternatives that have not been proven safe or
effective by scientists.
-they use testimonies, case histories, and subjective evidence
to justify their claims.
You can obtain good information from your doctor, fitness
trainer, professional nutritionist, local gym, books and tapes
written by professionals, etc.
Setting and keeping of goals are vital for obtaining better
health and fitness. They should cover long term to short term
(daily activities) objectives. They should be specific and
realistic with a time line for completion. To increase your
chances of completing your goals, you should tell someone
who will motivate and check up on your progress. This can
be your doctor, local gym, fitness trainer. They can give
you the motivation and positive encouragement you need. Also
realistic incremental changes to your habits are easier and
tend to be more permanent.
